Installing your own floor can save a substantial amount of money, but choosing the wrong product, ordering the wrong quantity, overlooking a substrate problem, or starting with a poor layout can quickly erase those savings.

We bring vetted flooring options to your project, measure the planned installation area, help you understand what the floor and substrate may require, and prepare a practical material plan so you can purchase confidently and install more intelligently.

What the $149 SmarterDIY consultation includes:

Included:

One scheduled on-site consultation for one property and one defined flooring project.
Field measurements of the reasonably accessible areas included in the project.
A material takeoff and recommended ordering quantity, including an appropriate estimated waste allowance.
Product guidance based on the room, expected use, household needs, and information you provide.
A visual review of accessible substrate conditions and discussion of obvious preparation concerns.
General guidance regarding layout direction, starting position, transitions, trim, underlayment or vapor-control products, and commonly required installation supplies.
A project-specific flooring and supply list.
One follow-up phone or video consultation of up to 15 minutes, used within 30 days of the on-site consultation.

How the $149 credit works

If you purchase the flooring and AlphaLife-recommended installation supplies for the measured project through AlphaLife Floors, the full $149 consultation fee will be applied as a credit to that qualifying purchase.

The credit is applied to the final material order; it is not a cash reimbursement. It cannot exceed the merchandise subtotal, be transferred to another person or property, be divided among multiple projects, or be combined with another consultation credit unless AlphaLife agrees in writing. Delivery, freight, taxes, special services, tool purchases or rentals, labor, and separately quoted assistance do not count toward or receive the credit.

To qualify, the material order must be placed by the customer who purchased the consultation, must cover the substantially complete flooring scope reviewed during the consultation, and must be placed within 60 days unless AlphaLife approves an extension in writing. The credit has no cash value and is forfeited if the customer purchases only samples, a token quantity, flooring for a different project, or flooring without the installation supplies AlphaLife identified as necessary for the system.

Important customer responsibilities

SmarterDIY is planning and educational assistance—not an installation contract, building inspection, engineering service, environmental assessment, or promise that the project will be simple or problem-free.

The $149 consultation does not include:

Installation labor, demolition, disposal, floor preparation, material handling, delivery, tool rental, trim work, doorway undercutting, transition or stair-nose installation, repairs, return trips, or emergency/rescue work.
Destructive investigation or evaluation of concealed conditions.
Moisture, pH, asbestos, lead, mold, structural, electrical, plumbing, code, or indoor-air-quality testing unless a specific test is separately listed and purchased in writing.
Permit research, code-compliance certification, manufacturer warranty approval, or supervision of the customer's work.
Unlimited calls, messages, photo reviews, or real-time installation support.

Additional services may be available and will be scheduled and priced separately. On-site service is subject to availability and a minimum service charge. AlphaLife may decline work that is unsafe, outside its normal scope, outside its service area, incompatible with the selected flooring system, or discovered after the DIY project has begun.

Important customer responsibilities

The customer remains the installer and is responsible for safely completing the work; using suitable tools and protective equipment; following all current manufacturer instructions; obtaining permits or professional evaluations when required; and confirming that site, substrate, moisture, flatness, temperature, humidity, expansion, acclimation, and preparation requirements are satisfied before installation.

If AlphaLife's general guidance appears to conflict with the flooring or accessory manufacturer's current written instructions, stop work and obtain clarification before proceeding. Manufacturer instructions and applicable codes control.
